Lose 10 Pounds

2013 is here and whether you call it a resolution or not most of us have a list of little promises we make to ourselves for the coming year. For most of us losing weight is at the top. Of coarse, this isn’t news to anyone especially because we make the same resolution every year and somehow by the end of the year we’ve packed on a few more pounds than we started with. It’s frustrating and a little depressing.

Well, this year doesn’t have to be like that. I suggest we ignore the crazy diets, boot camp offers and medical interventions and take a common sense approach. I rarely see people make big lifestyle changes like going vegetarian or cutting out meals or adding two smaller meals work for long. Sure those strategies can be effective but, we are who we are and if we weren’t able to stick to it in the past we probably won’t be able to now.

I think the easiest and best way is to drop a few pounds is to go after the sneaky calories. Sneaky calories are those little treats we enjoy throughout the week  that seem so small and harmless but, when we add them up over a year they can have real impact.

Below I’ve listed the average caloric value for some poplular drinks and snacks, some healthy some not, estimated how often people eat or drink them, added up the calories over a year and then divided them by 3,500 (a pound of body weight).  I think you’ll be surprized at how these innocent  little things add up. By cutting out just a few of these tiny, little treats you can easily and almost effortlessly drop10-30lbs by the end of the year..

Imagine that this year, your meals and you exercise schedule stayed the same as last year and all you did differently was  cut out 1 acai bowl per week you’d drop over 10 pounds.  If you cut out one smoothie per week you’d be almost pounds slimmer.  How about just one bag of plain M&M’s per week 3.4 pounds.
